Our favorite day of the year has finally arrived. The Giants are officially back in San Francisco and bringing a whole new look with them this year! If you are still on the fence about coming out for opening weekend it’s time to jump on down to King Street. Let’s count the reasons to be excited about another year of Giants base; 1) Defense is back at 3rd and King! With the addition of Jung Hoo Lee, Matt Chapman and Nick Ahmed there will be plenty of leather being flashed this summer. 2) Homeruns are back on the menu at Oracle Park. Will this be the first year since the Bonds era a Giants player hits 30 bombs? Our bet would be on Jorge Soler to finally break the curse, but don’t count out Chapman or Conforto to hit the mark either. Perhaps all 3? 3) The Arms Race – homeruns may be sexy but pitching and defense has always been the calling card of Giants success. After what seemed like it might be a weakness this offseason, all of a sudden they might have a top 5 rotation in the league. Led by perennial ace (and Hotel VIA favorite) Logan Webb, the addition of 2 time Cy Young winner Blake Snell, all star Alex Cobb and the young guns in Kyle Harrison this might be the most complete staff in baseball. And don’t forget they have another former Cy Young winner, Robbie Ray, coming off the DIL mid-summer just in time for the playoff race. 4) Youth Movement? Is this the year some of the young talent we’ve been waiting for finally makes an impact at the big league level? Calling on you Luis Matos, Marco Luciano, Mason Black and Carson Wisenhunt!
Those are just a few of the reasons our hopes may become reality for another postseason run at 24 Willie Mays Plaza in 2024. But it all starts this weekend and you don’t want to miss any of the action.
